Snow, and...More Snow (46/365)

More Snow

Well, we got another foot of snow overnight.  Now blowing like crazy.  The backyard is simply a sea of white.  Was too cold with the wind chill to even get out much.

The Beauty of Ice (45/365)

Hanging Beauty

We've had plenty of snow this season, and it's been quite cold.  All the snow and cold have caused a number of homes, including mine, to have the build-up of ice dams.  The ice dams can cause problem, but they also lead to some beautiful icicles.  I really like the texture of this one so it's my pic of the day.

Here are couple of others that I really liked.

Thank You (44/365)

Thank You

A frigid day in Providence today.  So cold, it was just too much to try and get outside for a picture.  So, back to my attempt and an indoor shot.  I found a case which holds a bunch of vendor give-a-way pens.  Took a few shots and settled on this one.  Nothing fancy.

Dreary Rose (43/365)

Dreary Rose

I've been under the weather the past couple of days.  Had to keep the project alive so I just shot a picture of a Beach Rose outside my back window.  Dreary, but that's pretty much how I felt.

Exchange Building (42/365)

Exchange Building

Providence has some wonderful old building architecture.  I work across the street from this one and I have always liked it.  If you've followed my project you saw the clock on this building last week.

As I was doing some research on the building I stumbled across an old picture of this building.  Here's a link.  Talk a look and I think you'll be quite surprised.  I think I like the old style better.

Frozen Providence (41/365)

Frozen Providence

The snow has stopped, for now, and the bitter cold has set in.  The river has frozen, and it feels like the rest of Providence and the area has, as well.

The Pastor Speaks (40/365)

1st Baptist Church

As many of you are aware, the New England area was hit by our third major storm in the last 17 days.  While this one was not a dump in a short period of time, it was more of a long drawn out affair.  We still got a good foot of snow on top of the 2-3' we already had.  Needless to say, many are tired of the snow, including it seems the Pastor of the First Baptist Church in America.  I personally am not in that camp,

Here's a full shot of the scene:

Feeling Better (39/365)

GhostBusters

Una's been a bit under the weather lately, but she seemed to be back to her old self today.  As we await the next storm it was time for a bit of Legos.  Una loves the movie GhostBusters so when I saw this Lego set at  the New York City LegoLand, I just had to grab it.  We're having fun putting it together.  This is the front end about 1/3 completed.

Here's a couple of more from  the "shoot".

Calm Before the Storm (38/365)

Wind Chime

It's a stay at home day today as we have a sick child. Another storm is on its way and thus the title.  The wind chime was still  for me to photograph, but word has it that it will soon be swinging in the wind.

Let's Eat (37/365)

A Small Sample

I didn't have a chance to get out and shoot today, as it was about 3 degrees when I  arrived at work.   So, I was forced to shoot indoors, which is certainly not my comfort zone.

My wife suggested a picture of some of her cookbooks.  You're looking at a small portion of them...make that a very small portion.  She loves to cook and try new things, and I certainly benefit from that.

Keeps on Ticking (36/365)

Exchange Building

Back in downtown Providence today so I thought I'd see what I could find.  Always liked taking a picture  of this building as I get a good time stamp.  :-)

Playing Paparazzi (35/365)

Ryan Reynolds

As I was walking back to my hotel room in New York City, I noticed that the David Letterman show was about to start taping at the Ed Sullivan Theater.  Having seen the same thing on Monday when I arrived, I decided to take a stroll  to the side entrance to the theater where the guest are shuttled to/from their cars.  I found a throng of "paparazzi".  In the opposite side of this picture are the real photographers, with the autograph hounds on the side I stood on.  It was an interesting crowd.   They obviously do this on  a regular basis.  One guy I had seen on Monday at the Seth Meyer's taping as I walked through 30 Rock. (Hard to imagine you could see and recognize someone in two locations of NYC.)   Another guy was scrolling through  pics on his phone of selfie's with numerous stars.  They must go from venue to venue.   I thought it rather amusing.

Here's a crop of the same pic for any Ryan Reynolds fans.  Full disclosure:  I had to look up on the web who he was.  Guess I'm getting old.

The Other Rock (34/365)

50 Rock

I spent some time walking today around  Rockefeller Plaza.  The inside of 30 Rock, the skating rink out on the Plaza, looking up to the Top of the Rock, it is all truly amazing.  As I was starting to head back to my conference, I walked through an area of Rockefeller Center that is a little less traveled.  Here is the entrance to 50 Rock.  Here's a  little I found about the building that I thought was interesting.

  • 50 Rockefeller Plaza: Bank of America Building 481,000 sq ft (44,700 m2) – Formerly the Associated Press Building and home to many news agencies. Isamu Noguchi's large, nine-ton stainless steel panel, News, holds the place of honor above the building's entrance. Noguchi's design depicts the various forms of communications used by journalists in the 1930s. The only building in the Center built to the outer limits of its lot line, 50 Rock took its shape from the main tenant's need for a single, undivided, loft-like newsroom as large as the lot could accommodate. At one point, four million feet of transmission wire were embedded in conduits on the building's fourth floor.

The Streets of New York (33/365)

The Streets of New York

Nasty day in New York City today.  Spotted this bike rack and just couldn't resist snapping a shot.  There are so many other things everyone takes a shot of.  I did some of that, too, but looked for the unique.  Here's another I liked as I walked around  and the temp plummeted.

Hi Neighbor (32/365)

Hi Neighbor

Well, it looks like more snow on the way.  Another foot?  If that is the case we'll be seeing our neighbors and will be sure to say "Hi".  In case you didn't know the "Hi-Neighbor!" is saying from the local beer, Narragansett.

This is the back of our Volvo wagon which is snowbound.  I thought this worked well today given that our Patriots are trying for their fourth Super Bowl.  The colors work.  :-)  Go Pats!!!
